In Part 1, I talked about some of the issues that you and your loved ones may be facing—but in order to change your circumstance or situation, you first must change your mind. After all, you cannot expect radical change, if don’t renew your mind and change your behaviors. Once your mindset has changed, the behavior will follow.

The most important thing about the holiday season is the spirit of thankfulness. So, as Christmas approaches—and before you step one foot into a market, mall or outlet—you need to have thankfulness at the forefront of your mind. And that starts with being thankful for all that you do have.

Do everything this season with the spirit and heart of thankfulness.

If you’re stuck on that one, and can’t find anything to be thankful for, I’ll give you one. Right now, you are on the Internet reading this article, so be thankful. Be thankful for the access you have to the Internet.

Whether you are in the privacy of your own home, a public place of access, or borrowing someone else’s access, you are here on this site with other mamas who are going through some, most or all the same things you may be going through, so you are not alone. That, my friend, is a list of things to be thankful for.

As you begin to establish what you would like to do, give, or buy this season, do it by putting others first. You may say I always cook, give, buy gifts thinking of others, but I want to challenge you on that. Do you do for others out of pride? Pride meaning you want to be perceived as this great cook, big spender, or someone with great taste.

If so, you need to change your mindset.

Don’t try and buy the affections of your children, family or others this season because to do so would be repeating past practices that you’re trying to free yourself from.

Do everything this holiday season with the heart for others.

Instead, put others first by considering other people’s plight, your financial future, and your kids’ future before you go out and buy anything. You may be thinking to yourself, if I’ve got it, why should I scale back because others may not have it? Well, what may not be your circumstance now, can easily become yours, if you don’t make the right choices now.

Now with our mind ready and our focus changed, we can move into a plan of action in Part III.
